AnySharp - is it really "The World's Best Knife Sharpener"?

They make a pretty bold claim! But so many reviewers at Amazon say it's the best they've ever used. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't being tricked by clever marketing... has anyone tried this knife sharpener? Is it really the best?

No, absolutely not.

In fact most of the claims I saw on their UK site is utter BS.
The claim "sharpens hardened knives(e.g. Global, Sabatier)" alone makes it ridiculous.

All the knives (kitchen or not), are hardened and Globals at 58HRC and Sabatiers at 54-56HRC aren't the hardest knives out there, I have plenty of Japanese kitchen knives at 64-67HRC.

Anyway, no sharpener of single grit can be a best or simply enough. if the grit is low then it'll never grind sharp edge, if the grit high then once the knife gets dull it'll never get it sharp in any reasonable time.

The demo video showing how a knife gets sharp in 2 swipes is simply misleading.

So, in the end, it's mediocre at best, and clearly not enough to maintain sharp knives. Those types of sharpeners are somewhere close t medium grit, 1000-2000. It will make ok edge for a while, but once the knife edge dulls and thickens that small sharpener is simply not enough to rebevel the edge and get it sharp again. Well, unless you spend a few hours grinding the knife.

What I really dislike is false and misleading advertisements like that.

To the Best Mum in the World...Ever! $12.99 EMI's To the Best Mum in the World... Ever! follows in the footsteps of previous compilations like Dad Rocks!, where the compilers turn late-night MP3 mixes that conform (very loosely) to a (mostly familial) theme into budget-price nostalgia bombs aimed at the wallets of lazy kids on Mother's or Father's Day. That said, they're usually pretty entertaining, and Best Mum in the World is no exception.
